Dr. Maya Hammoud is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Professor of Learning Health Sciences at the University of Michigan Medical School (UMMS). She has dedicated her career to medical student education and serves in many educational leadership roles locally and nationally. She is the Associate Chair for E-Learning and Enabling Technologies, Chair of the Center for Education, and Clerkship Director for Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has served on the Medical School Executive Committee and is Assistant Director for Education, Global Reach at the Medical School. She is currently the President of the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO). Dr. Hammoud has been working with the American Medical Association (AMA) as a consultant Director of Medical Education Innovation to help with the AMA initiative in accelerating change in medical education and create a system that trains physicians to meet the needs of today's patients and to anticipate future changes.
Dr. Hammoud completed her MD and MBA degrees and residency training at the University of Michigan. She joined the faculty and became Director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clerkship. She then served in many leadership roles including Assistant Dean for Student Programs and Interim Associate Dean for Student Programs at UMMS and Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs, and Senior Associate Dean for Education at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar.
Dr. Hammoud is active in many national organizations including ACOG where she represents her institution on the ACOG Simulation Workgroup and APGO where she has held multiple leadership roles including Chair of the Undergraduate Medical Education Committee, Chair of the Electronic Resources Committee, Chair of the Testing and Technology Committee, and Secretary-Treasurer. In addition, she is an oral board examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) and Chair of the NBME International Foundations of Medicine (IFOM) Integrated Exam and Test Material Development Committee.
