Interprofessional education is grounded in the responsibility of faculty to shape caring practitioners who have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to practice competently and ethically in complex health systems.  Shared moral agency, shared ethical decision-making, and shared ethical reflection honor the tenets of interprofessional collaborative practice and help build a moral community. Values and ethics have been defined by several national and international reports as core competencies for interprofessional collaborative practice, yet many students struggle with ethics content and many educators struggle with how to best integrate this content into interprofessional curricula. 

Through participation in this session, participants will become familiar with a variety of evidence-based teaching activities to enhance student learning in the content area of ethics.  Sample methodologies including a pre-matriculation common reading program, interprofessional simulation, and an ethics focused debriefing methodology for use in both academic and clinical settings will be discussed.  The presenters will report the development of threaded interprofessional pedagogical activities that promote enhancement of students’ moral reasoning in the context of authentic practice.  Participants will have an opportunity to apply the "debriefing with good judgement" model through analysis of student video clips and pair-and-share discussions.

Emphasis will be placed on practical ways participants can integrate and assess ethics knowledge and skills in their own curricula (particularly for faculty without experience in this content area). Through participation in this educational session, faculty will more effectively challenge students to consider the rights and values of others in care decisions, develop ethical reasoning, and contribute to the shared moral community. 

Upon completion of this workshop participants will:

• Integrate evidence based ethics teaching activities into academic and clinical education, advancing the development of ethical reasoning in interprofessional learners.
• Understand how the "debriefing with good judgement" model and listening with an ethical ear can structure meaningful experiential learning in simulation and clinical case debriefings. 
• Prepare to implement integrated learning experiences in their own curricula to actualize student learning outcomes in the IPEC core competencies.
